This course is on image analysis, it will to help you teach how to decode images by examining the source, framing, retouching, optical illusions, and captions — all within scenarios relatable to children’s everyday experiences.

Objectives:

  • Critically analyse images.
  • Observe images, to contextualize them.
  • Understand how composition and framing can influence an image’s message.
  • Know that images can be manipulated through editing software.
  • Understand that context can change an image’s meaning.
  • Discover how individual cognitive biases affect image perception.
  • Explore tools for information analysis.

This course was developed in partnership with Rose-Marie Farinella, a French school teacher specializing in media education. It relies on a module from her teaching scenario, “Fact or Fiction: How to Tell the Difference on the Web, Starting in Primary School.”
